கலிஃபோர்னியா பெர்க்கிலி (UC Berekeley) பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் 20 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் துவங்கப்பட்ட தமிழ் அறக்கட்டளை (Berkeley Tamil Chair) அங்கு ஒரு பேராசிரியருக்கு உத்தரவாதம் கொடுத்தது. அங்கு தற்சமயம் இரு கல்வியாளர்கள் உள்ளனர். நிதிநிலை சுருக்கங்களின் தாக்கங்களைத் தவிர்த்து மற்றொரு ஆசிரியரின் பங்களிப்பையும் உறுதிசெய்யும் நோக்குடன் அங்கு துவங்கப்பட்டதே ‘Aringar Anna Tamil Studies Endowment’. இதன் இலக்கு $1 மில்லியன்.
தமிழ்நாட்டுத் தலைவர் ஒருவரின் பெயரில் இங்கு ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்ட முதல் அறக்கட்டளை இது. தற்சமயம் இவ்வறக்கட்டளைக்காக $250 ஆயிரம் சேகரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தமிழக அரசின் உதவியும் கோரியுள்ளோம். இந்தக் கனவை நனவாக்க உங்கள் உதவிகளையும் கோருகின்றோம்.
Announcement
When the first Tamil Chair in the US was established 20 years ago at the University of California, Berkeley, the initial funding was guaranteed for one Professor. The University added another Tamil instructor, but this teaching position is likely to be removed due to the depletion of the current market value of the Endowment Fund.
Tamil Chair Inc has signed up a memo to establish “Aringer Anna Tamil Studies Endowment” for $1 Million and guarantee the funding for the second teaching position. Tamil Chair Inc. has already donated the initial seed money of $25000 and planned to raise the remaining funds. We have also approached Tamil Nadu government for some support.
